The Future
Danbury Mission - another extension!
Although we completed our last extension only 4-5 years ago, we already need a further extension to accommodate the growing numbers attending our Services, and in particular the popular Sunday Morning Service which is typically attended by well over 250 people!
We appointed specialist church Architects to look at the most cost effective way of extending the capacity of the Main Hall. We need to be able to comfortably accommodate 350 people in the main hall now and possibly more in the future, provide a larger reception/welcoming area with coffee shop, and a much needed upgrade to classrooms and toilets in the old part of the building. Their conclusion was that it would be preferable to demolish and rebuild the front half of the church.
The Architects produced a design in line with our brief. Plans were presented for approval at the Church Meeting on 1st July 2010 following which a formal planning application was submitted with consent being granted in November 2010.
Tenders were invited from 6 building companies and the contract was awarded to Brooks & Wood.
Demolition work started w/c 20th June 2011 for 7 weeks; contruction work started early August. The whole project should be completed within 14 months. During that time our Sunday Morning Services are being held at Sandon School; our Sunday Evening Service and weekday activities will be able to continue in the community annex at the rear of the church. Check the 'Latest News' link for the latest information on any disruption to our normal activities.
